Would you like to participate in Fries on the Side?

We have a Writing Staff and Main Cast who return every week, and we get the other half of our material from outside guests like yourself. If you'd like to write for the show or act in it, you'll find what you need below. If you have an Improv troup or another act you think would fit into the show, contact Julia Henry about making arrangements.

WRITE WITH US
  1. You "must" have seen a show in person before submitting to Fries. This is so you can get a sense of what Fries is like and ask us any questions you have. If you're not local to LA, contact us and we'll work something out.
  2. See the formatting page to see how your script should be formatted so we can easily put it in the teleprompters.
  3. You're limited to 2 submissions per week. If you submit more, we'll only read the first 2.
  4. Write your sketch and use our Submit Page to submit before midnight on the Tuesday before the show.
  5. Look at the Lineup on the Shows page to see if your sketch is in the show that week.
  6. If your sketch was chosen be at the theatre by the call time shown on the Shows page for that week.
  7. Bring a copy of your sketch for each actor you'll cast and 2 extras for the booth.
  8. Cast your material.
  9. Sit back and watch your work come to life.
ACT WITH US
  1. Come watch a show to get a feel for what Fries is like and what actors do. Ask us any questions you have.
  2. Return again at the call time listed on the Shows page for that week.
  3. Don't be late and have a seat in the theatre.
  4. The director will announce new actors and you'll be introduced.
  5. Writers will cast their material and possibly put you in something. You're limited to 1 sketch your first night and up to 3 thereafter.
  6. You'll have time to look over your script and we'll do a rehearsal.
  7. Finally you act in the show and use teleprompters for your lines.

Other Notes for ALL Performers

  • Submitted sketches must be 5 minutes or under (some exceptions are made)
  • Written material must be original (owned by the person submitted)
  • If you wish to do something besides act or write for the show (musician, comedian, host, improv) please contact our producer, Julia Henry - jhenry@friesontheside.com
  • We use teleprompters at the show. Scripts are put into them and the actor is given a copy to rehearse with.
  • There is no guarantee that your piece will be included in the show. We get many submissions each week. We do our best to reply with notes or reasons why something wasn't selected.
  • There is no guarantee that a weekly actor will be cast. Casting is done by each writer individually.
  • If you're new, determination and attitude make all the difference. We welcome new people openly. Have fun, do well, and writers will remember and cast you often.
