Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the show really new every time?
Yes. We write a completely new show every week. That means 8 to 10 new sketches, a new band, and a new host every for every single Regular Season show. Amazing, right? Our traveling shows and Season Finale shows are comprised of our favorite sketches from past shows.
  • I read that the show comes together in 2 hours. How can that be?
Our writers are working during the week on their own, but it's true that the show is assembled in only 2 hours. The writers bring what's chosen to the theatre 2 hours before you see the show.

They give their material to the actors for the very first time right then. What you see at the show is lights, sound, sets, costumes, blocking, and actors who have done everything you see in the last 2 hours. We pull it off because we have an incredibly talented cast and crew who make it all possible.
  • Do you guys have shows every week?
Not every single week, no. Our schedule changes, but we usually have 3 shows a month. You can always find the next 3 show dates/locations on this site or by calling our information line: 323.319.5099.
  • What's the deadline if I want to submit a sketch for the show?
To have your sketch considered for a show, it must be received by Midnight on the Wednesday before the show date. Because of the quantity of sketches submitted each week, there are rarely exceptions made to this deadline. You are also able to submit your sketch in future weeks if it's rejected for being late.
  • Is there Improv at Fries on the Side?
It's not built into the show, but the great thing about Fries is that we are open to almost any kind of act. If you have an Improv troop and would like to perform, let us know. 99% of our material is sketch comedy (short comedic scenes similar to Saturday Night Live).
  • If I have a funny idea I want to share, but I'm not a writer, what can I do?
We have a full-time staff of writers that are paid with love to write for the show. You can contact any one of them individually via email or you can send an email to contact@friesontheside.com and let us know that you want us to have a writer contact you about your idea. You'll get credit for the idea, don't worry.
